Islamic Art in the Ashmolean

The Ashmolean Museum, amongst its myriad of treasures, hosts a world-famous collection of Islamic art. Stretching from Muslim Spain in the west to Muslim India in the east, the Islamic collection in the Department of Eastern Art is the principal focus for the teaching and research in Islamic art and archeology at Oxford University. It covers a wide range of media including ceramics, glass, metalwork, ivory, and painting, and is complemented by the rich resource in Islamic numismatics of the Heberden Coin Room.
