reliefs depicting stories the type contained in the Tantri texts are found on ancient Javanese candi. more recent depictions of such stories are known from Bali as Hooykaas mentioned, and also from Lombok. they consist of reliefs or paintings on buildings, paintings or drawings on palmleaf, cloth or paper and woodcravings
candi are still found today in Indonesia, particularly in Java, Sumatra and Bali. candi is influenced by Hiduism and Buddhism by earlier indigenous beliefs, to such an extent that is stricly more correct to speak of Hinduistic and Buddhistic, rather than Hindu and Buddhist sanctuaries
